About this service

Our pharmacists can help you start a new oral contraceptive pill or continue one you are already using, following an NHS assessment — without needing to see your GP first.

The consultation is private and confidential. We will check that the pill is suitable for you, take a blood pressure reading where needed, and answer any questions about your options.

What's included

  • Start a new oral contraceptive pill (subject to assessment)
  • Ongoing supply of your regular pill
  • Blood pressure and suitability checks
  • Private, confidential consultation room
  • Signposting to wider sexual health services where needed

Eligibility: For people who wish to start or continue an oral contraceptive pill. Suitability is assessed by the pharmacist. Final eligibility and treatment decisions are confirmed by the pharmacist during your consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the pill without seeing my GP?
In many cases, yes. A pharmacist can assess your suitability and supply routine oral contraception where it is clinically appropriate. Some situations still need a GP or sexual health clinic, and we will tell you if so.
Is the consultation private?
Yes. The conversation takes place in our private consultation room and is treated in confidence.
